Election Day and Happy 96th!

Jonny and Jenny joined Dad and me for election day on November 4. Dad proudly sported his "I voted for that one" T-shirt, reflecting John McCain's reference to Barack Obama, during the debates, as "that one." Grandma voted by mail this year, rather than braving any ferocity of storm to get to the polls. I enjoyed minority status in the family, supporting John McCain.

It is always fun to visit Grandma Calder, who holds court in her family room every Sunday night. That is a great place to hear Grandma's views on politics, the JAZZ, and the general state of evil in the world. It is also a good place to run into David and Vanessa, Scott, Elizabeth, or other Calders, as well as Nubia, Fran Wilcox, Judy Jardine, and others of Mom's friends who now seem part of the family.

November was a big month for Grandma. On November 14, we held her birthday party at the Lion House with the Calders. As usual, everyone told a special memory from 2008, as well as how they voted (for those who dared). Jenny was the only brave soul who told Grandma, plain and simple, that she voted for Obama. There were a number who said they voted for Mark Shurtleff, the Utah Republican attorney general, and left their U.S. presidential choice ambiguous!

Jill Moench got married to Brent Call on November 15. He is a school teacher who lives in Payson with his three pre-teen and teenaged children. His oldest son is student body president of Payson High. Jill will move to Payson, but commute to SLC to run Darrell's printing business. Jared and Megan Moench arrived with little Jessica. Jared will graduate from BYU's School of Film this spring and look for a job in the Northwest.
