One of my favorite yearly traditions is celebrating Chinese New Year. In addition to a multicourse Chinese dinner on February 15, 2026, we had goodie bags filled with chocolate coins, chopsticks, and fans; posters of Mao and a Hong Kong dancer; Chinese pop music; and an interactive game about Chinese people and places. Steve and Jono represented the Eberts.
Susan, a friend of our sister-in-law Shauna, has continued to join us for family dinners even after Shauna remarried.Mike and my brother Scott helped with clean-up.Jonny's seven-year-old, Thomas, had learned about Chinese New Year traditions at school. He led his brothers in a Chinese lion dance through our kitchen and around our family room.
Thomas also learned about the Chinese custom of sweeping the floors on New Years to get rid of all the bad spirits in the house. Thomas made sure our house was bad spirit-free!
