Hello and Goodbye

Michael is home from New York and Australia and San Diego. He joined us Sunday night with stories of fairy penguins riding the waves like surfboarders at Phillips Island, Australia, and of an Outback as casually populated with aborigines and their art as "Four Corners with Native Americans." Michael's next trip is to North Korea, later this month, sandwiched between his classes at BYU's MBA program.Jonny and Jenny leave Tuesday for the University of Chicago. Jenny worked this weekend in Sun Valley, Idaho, as a private nurse and Jonny packed and cleaned while she was gone. He took a break on Saturday to share some favorite fall excursions with his mom and dad--the Farmer's Market, the Greek Festival, and a U of U football game.We went shopping at the Farmer's Market for tree-ripened peaches, which Gretta and Jonny praised as "luxurious" and "decadent." We also snapped Jonny's favorite dogs, from the many strolling about in the late summer sunshine. "He ought to be named Rusty and he looks like a Mickey," Jonny said of his favorite dogs.
Next stop was the Greek festival. We ate gyros, fried squid, and Greek meatballs while enjoying the show.

Jonny and Dave relaxed in the living room to watch the U of U smash a rival.
We're enjoying our annual time share week at Snowbird. As we drove back to SLC Sunday morning for Church, we admired the craggy beauty of Utah's mountains.

Even the trees and plants--aspens, pines, and asters---were spectacular.

We wandered with Dave's mom through the Oktoberfest shops and the Bavarian tent, with its oompah band...

...and we admired the picturesque Bavarian outfits.
It was heaven to have so many dear family members for dinner in our Snowbird condo."You can tell this is a good dinner, " Jonny said. "More than half the plate is green." His love of salad and asparagus is a sharp change from the Chuckarama days of yore when Jonny and Michael loaded their plates with scones, macaroni and cheese, and potatoes and gravy. We laughed late into the night before saying one more goodbye--and hello.

When we moved, I knew that one of the things I would really miss, and not easily be able to come back for was the Snowbird week. It looks like another great season up there! Jonny's transformation from his Chuck a Ramma days to filling his plate full of green things gives me hope of healthier days at the Ebert dinner table. We wish we could have joined you as well this weekend!

Great post Mom. We took a few of the peaches with us to Chicago, and they were great. We're already looking forward to seeing everybody in December (or November).
