This afternoon we explored Ocean Shores. It had a charming Interpretive Center, with a cross-section of a western hemlock tree (the main evergreen tree in Washington forests), a cannon from somewhere or other, and a totem pole arranged outside.
Inside, there were all sorts of wonders to freely touch. Sophia held a bird wing and Annelise looked through a submarine-style peephole.
Alyssa and Bryce loved the shells. All of us were fascinated by the curator, who told a wild story about retiring in Ocean Shores because he had been an undercover agent with the FBI in San Diego and was fleeing the Mexican Mafia. True or false? Who knows?
Ocean Shores has long, wide, sandy beaches, and one that is especially beautiful. We strolled that most beautiful beach as a family, with plenty of time to talk, sink our toes into the sand, find pretty rocks and shells, and chase the waves.
Of course, sand absolutely begs to be digged in and sat on, and holes must be crawled into.
Back at The Windjammer, our condo complex, Sam ran up and down the halls, rejoicing in being out of the car and free to roam. He was adorable in the Korea sweatshirt that my mom bought for Jonny nearly thirty years ago. Jonny was just that cute in the sweatshirt, himself!
Another "dog of the day."
