Blue hydrangeas always remind me of Jenny, because they were the featured flower at Jonny and Jenny's wedding reception. They grow well on the Olympic Peninsula.
When we reached the Lake Quinault Lodge, we headed for the beach. We rented what we thought made sense--a great big rowboat that could hold six people. It was a disaster! It was too heavy for one person (Mike) to row in the wind-blown current.
We traded the rowboat for two canoes, which were just right. They were easy to row and everyone had a chance to sail the lake in them. The kids enjoyed a few good water fights.
Dave really enjoys good time with his children and grandchildren!
By lucky chance, there was a smoldering fire and marshmallow roasting sticks by the lakeside. We bought some marshmallows, grahm crackers, and chocolate, and made s'mores. Sam was new to s'mores, but he had already mastered his mom's iPhone.
Across the street at the general store, the clerk was awed by the responsibility of making hazelnut shakes for people who had come back for more of them after twenty years!
We were all pleased, though, with the results of her labors!
We hiked a rain forest trail near Lake Quinault.
Sam was fascinated by all that fuzzy, mossy stuff.
The woodsy trail opened into the clearing where a farmstead once stood. The old farm trucks and sheds were as photogenic as if a camera crew had designed them!
Back in the glade, Mike and Bryce posed for a few last photos before we headed back to the condo for the Candybar Game.
