Sophia and Her Very Bad, No-Good Brain Tumor

On June 7, 2016, Sophia had an MRI to double check that there weren't serious problems with her headaches and flu symptoms.  The computer technician left the room and Sophia could see a huge white spot in the middle of the computer image of her brain.  "I knew something was wrong," she said.  Sophia went to the hospital that night, armed with her blankets (above).
Sophia was upbeat and brave in the hospital, with a big smile for the camera and her visitors.  She was both lucky and blessed--as it turned out, she had a stage 2, slow-growing cancer, and the surgeon was able to totally remove it.  Sophia will not have to have radiation or chemotherapy, although she'll have several MRIs per year for the next few years.
Sophie's friends visited her in the hospital, wearing matching t-shirts with a Superman logo and the words "Sophie's Strong."
Dave and I manned the Ebert home for a few days.  The first night they received four dinners, four types of cookies, and bagels.
The Young Women and Activities Day girls tied purple ribbons (Sophia's favorite color) around trees up and down the Eberts' street and made signs for their house--"We Love Sophia," "Prayers for Sophia," and "Sophie's Strong."
Life went on with Sophia's family at home.  Dave and I tried to be helpful, including taking Mia and Ezra to camps and putting them to bed, doing the laundry, and even sorting a laundry basket of stray socks!
We never quite got used to the sight of Oakley in his favorite sleeping position on the kitchen floor.
On Saturday, June 11, 2016, we took Mia and Ezra to Thanksgiving Point to the dinosaur museum. We had lunch at the cafe, and were joined by Spencer and his girlfriend, Naomi.  They were dressed to attend the Provo City Center Temple in the afternoon.

We took Mia and Ezra home to swim in our hot tub.
We also took Mia and Ezra to visit Sophia.  Steve wrapped Mia in his arms as we talked with Camille, exhausted from staying, day and night, at the hospital with Sophia.
