With J&J: The Beach

We spent the afternoon on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale.  Sam dug in the sand with Jonny while Henry sat with Jenny, pointing out “ducks.”   Dave had a mock competition with Sam in pulling the umbrella anchor from the sand.  Jonny buried it and then Dave huffed and puffed and turned red in the face, pretending to try as hard as he possibly could to remove it.  He then turned the job over to Sam, who removed the anchor after just a few pulls!

Anything that flew in the sky or bounced across the sand wearing wings was a “duck” to Henry, including crows and parasailers.  Henry crawled towards one crow after another, but they flew away just before he reached them.

We also ate Cuban food at a cafe in the community center of a trailer park.  Jonny searched Yelp for Cuban restaurants in the Ft. Lauderdale beach area, and that’s where his GPS led us.  It was actually a good, mom and pop ethnic restaurant.  I enjoyed my pulled, fried beef, served with black beans and scoop of white rice, others ate Cuban sandwiches, and we shared slices of flan. I love places like this one, where the owner/chef is clearly from the country whose food he/she is cooking.  There is sometimes more passion than expertise, at such a place, but passion is almost as memorable, in a meal, as flavor!
