Rose Eyring Calder would have been 105 on November 21, 2017. Mom's family members in SLC gathered on November 19, 2017, to tell "Grandma Rose" stories and celebrate her memory.
Mom adored her grandchildren and would do most anything to please them. She even joined in family "funny face" photos at Jono Ebert's birthday party in 2005.
We also celebrated Grant Calder's memory at our party, and ate chicken 'n' biscuits to approximate Sunday dinners at the Hyrum and Nellie Calder home in Vernal. (Nellie's specialty was actually chicken 'n' dumplings, but, as Camille said, "We compromised authentic for edible.")
Scott brought his specialty, homemade sugared nuts.
Lizzie was in town from Boston, and we loved hearing about her exciting projects at a Bain & Co. affiliate which provides consulting services for non-profits. She's debating when to go back to graduate school, and whether to become an academic or a tycoon.
Grant Calder's wife, Jamie, was all smiles despite the months she spent recuperating from being run over by (her own) car earlier this year and breaking her collar bone and ribs.
The Ebert kids ate creamed corn off green bamboo plates just like Grandma Rose's.
Grant's Lulu and her little sister, and Camille's Mia are getting prettier and prettier.
Camille's kids fondly refer to Scott as "Uncle Nerdy" because he always has the latest computers and tech toys. Under any name, he's a favorite with the children, including his grandson, Truman. Scott also shared with us an unedited tape of the interview Mom gave for a documentary about her brother, Henry Eyring. She seemed as real, on tape, as if she were in the room with us.
Steve and Grant exchanged business stories, as Dave provided the psychologist's viewpoint.
Grandma Rose was at the party only in spirit. We had another party girl, though--Liz Calder!
