Thanksgiving 2017. Camille invited us to her house for dinner. We brought a happy crowd--Dave and me, Jonny and Jenny with Henry and Sam, Lisa and Kyle with Rebekah, Michael K, Bryce, and Alyssa. Spencer and Naomi Flindt spent Thanksgiving in Bulgaria and Mike and Heidi were at the Bastians' farm in Axtell, Utah. We will catch up with them at Christmas.
I asked Camille to assign me half the dishes to cook. She allocated me five dishes, and I assumed I was bringing half the dinner. But no! When I arrived at Camille's house, I counted 18 separate dishes, including apple brew, butternut squash soup, stuffed mushrooms, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, orange rolls, three salads, brussels sprouts, corn, and five varieties of pies!
A crisp green salad helped offset Thanksgiving dinner's overflowing cream and butter!
Red jello salad with pomegranate seeds is an Ebert tradition.
Baked mushrooms stuffed with hickory smoke-flavored cream cheese is a Spendlove tradition.
Lisa learned to make fluffy orange rolls as a hostess at SLC's Lion House restaurant.
As another nod to health, Camille served her dad's favorite vegetable, brussels sprouts, sauteed with buttered, grated carrots and flavored with fine herbs.
The non-cooks gathered outside to toss around a football and jump on the trampoline.
Mia is the gymnast of the group and can do flips.
Even two-year-old Henry jumped on the tramp.
Bryce has never had his own dog, and so he especially enjoyed playing with the Eberts' Oakley.
Oakley joined the party both outside and in. He knew he'd get some scraps sooner or later!
Rebekah and Michael K have been at school at BYU-Idaho and Kirsten has been at BYU-Provo. They enjoyed catching up with Kyle and Lisa, who drove to SLC to join their children and daughter-in-law.
Jenny is expecting #3 baby next July. She wasn't feeling well at Thanksgiving, but she kept a happy face as she and Henry waited for dinner.
Bryce and Ezra tried a cup of apple brew as an appetizer.
Finally--Thanksgiving dinner in Camille and Steve's elegant dining room! We had so much to be grateful for. One of the greatest blessings was having so many of us together.
