Seattle I--Across the Bridge

During the weekend of November 17 to 19, 2017, Dave and I visited Lisa and her family in Seattle.  We began our adventure with a walk across the Mercer Island Bridge.

The skyscrapers of Bellevue stretched out in the distance, across vast expanses of Lake Washington on one side and Lake Union on the other.

It was still fall in Seattle and brilliant orange and red leaves flamed on trees along the shore.

We wandered Pike Market for several hours.  We stopped at Sur La Table to buy Christmas gifts—maple/thyme flavoring for brussels sprouts for Lisa to give Dave for his birthday, and herb scissors for me to put on my Christmas table.

We also wandered among the ever-fascinating food stalls.
I waited in line for 45 minutes at Pike Place Chowder, as David, Lisa, Alyssa, and Bryce wandered through the market.  The chowder sampler is one of my obsessions—four 5-oz. cups of chowders chosen from six or eight possibilities.  I love the lobster bisque, chorizo and crab, and seared scallops with dill, as well as the classic New England chowder.

Kyle joined us for supper at Noodles & Company, a mom and pop Thai restaurant in Issaquah, near Lisa's home.  We ordered everything with one or two stars—very mild.  “Musselman curry usually sears the nostrils,” Kyle said, but our mild version was “almost sweet.”

We then attended a performance of “Newsies” at the Village Theater in Issaquah.  The musical was about the newsboys strike of 1899 in New York City.  The actor playing Jack Kelly, the star, had a spectacular voice, and the dancing was athletic and amazing.  It was a treat for Bryce, Alyssa, and the rest of us.
