We have spent a week at our Snowbird timeshare every year since 2005. We moved into Room 618 on September 15, 2020, and spent a very different kind of vacation. Oktoberfest, with its exhuberant crowds, music, and food, was canceled because of the pandemic. Our favorite restaurant, The Aerie, was closed, and we had to make a reservation to check into our room! Usually, we invite the whole family to Sunday dinner at our condo, but we canceled that, as well, since large indoor crowds easily become "super-spreader events." Nevertheless, we had a great time.
We discovered a new restaurant, SeventyOne, named after 1971, the year Snowbird opened. It had a fun,1970s ambience, with teal and orange naugahyde chairs. The decor reminded us of the way things looked when we got married in 1970. The barbecued brisket at SeventyOne was so tender we cut it with a fork, and the apple crisp was divine.Simply gazing out at the rugged mountains from restaurant windows and from our condo was reward enough for our visit. We love watching darkness fall over the mountain, and we love driving back to the city in the early morning, as we emerge from the dark canyon and dawn breaks over the valley.
