Sam, Henry, and Jane Austen (2..10.24)

As a Christmas present, Jonny bought tickets for Dave and me to take Sam and Henry to Hale Theater plays.  On February 10, 2024, we attended Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" with Sam and Henry.  I was afraid the boys wouldn't enjoy this play, which is about love and marriage and set in 18th century England.  Dave and I talked about the play with Sam and Henry before attending it.  We asked them what "pride" and "prejudice" mean, and then explained that Mr. Darcy was proud and Elizabeth Barrett was prejudiced against him.  By the time we arrived at the theater, Sam and Henry knew to watch for Mrs. Barrett and her efforts to marry off her daughters, and for the silly daughters, who were infatuated with soldiers in uniforms.  They also knew to listen to signs of the characters showing pride and prejudice.

An important part of attending the plays is buying treats before the play starts at the cafe next door to the theater.  We all prefer the "pineapple princess drink", but Sam and Henry had to get comfortable with the idea that the drink is for boys, too, even though it includes the word "princess" in its name.
