Small town parades are the best. Riders on floats throw taffy to the crowd and the town fire engine and cement truck get gussied up with flags and drive in the parade. On Tuesday, July 4, 2017, we watched the Kalispell Fourth of July parade.
The Shriners were there in their Turkish hats.A vintage man drove a vintage Delorean car.
An oil and gas company showed its flares.
Because of Jonny's job with John Deere, we are partial to all Deere-branded machines.
It has been a treat to have Michael K and Rebekah with us, although they had to drive home to Rexburg, Idaho, after the parade, to attend tomorrow's classes.
Heidi has a great selection of hats.
The rodeo queens rode in the parade, and we quickly checked out how to buy tickets!
This is a very old-time fire engine.
At last, the cement trucks, with flags on their mirrors and bunting across their bumpers.
Sam picked candy off the street. Jenny merely sighed. Somehow, we all survive the Fourth of July!
On the afternoon of July 4, we hiked the Lion Mountain trail, with views looking down on the many lakes around Whitefish.
In the evening, before leaving for the fireworks, we played "the candy bar game." Each contestant rolled dice for a chance to either pick a candy bar from the floor or steal one of his neighbor's candy bars, if he could correctly identify who had that candy bar in his/her bag.
Henry wanted to play.
Spencer rolled the dice but didn't quite make it.
A winner!
