We stayed for a week, during late February and early March, at La Feriera, a resort hotel in Lori Celluso, 30 miles outside Florence. It was gorgeous at dawn, with the waterfall cascading and the lights warming the empty courtyard. La Feriera is a restored mill, with "extras" like a swimming pool, tennis court, and gourmet restaurant.

Yellow stucco homes with red tile roofs decorated our town and other towns all over Tuscany.

Narrow, winding roads trailed from our village towards the main road to Florence, with niches along the side with statue of the Virgin Mary and other momentos, such as flowers and candles.

The food, included with our room, featured bounteous breakfast buffets...

and elegant dinners with menu choices like tomato bread soup...

fricaseed beef with broccoli souffle...

and cream puffs in the shape of swans, swimming in blue-tinted cream.

It was very fancy and very good, but Dave soon yearned for a crisp green salad rather than all the food art.
