The Farmer's Market! The zoo! Those are places kids love, but how do you enjoy them when your children are grown and your grandchildren are 1000 miles away? Dave and I spent a day being kids ourselves. We started the morning of September 17, 2011, by searching for fresh corn and veggies at the Farmer's Market at Pioneer Park.
Michael came along and we bought the treat he has enjoyed since he was a little boy--a block of homemade soap.
The Market has great people-watching.
So does the zoo. These ladies were stationed next to the monkey cages with a cobra (python?) we could all pet.
Dave's arms weren't quite as long as a gorilla's (thank heavens).
We loved the beasts. I realized that, although Salt Lake's zoo doesn't compare with Omaha's or San Diego's or Seattle's, or the cat house at the Lincoln Park Zoo, it still has loveable beasts that I want to visit again and again, and to see in their many moods.

We even loved climbing the animal statues like the little kids do. 
We finished our play day at the Church Museum of Art, where there was an exhibit of works of LeConte Stewart, including many from private collections that we had never viewed before.
LeConte Stewart is a favorite painter for both David and me, particularly since we love the Utah landscape and that is his specialty. All of his paintings look like something we've just seen.

My kids have been hoping for a day at the zoo during our visit. Looks like fun.
