Spareribs and Daisies

Joyous! That's the word that expresses the combination of farm fresh fruits and vegetables, fowers and trees, and people I love. A summer dinner in the backyard encompasses all these delights. On Sunday evening, August 7, 2011, Camille, Steve, and their children joined Dave's mom, Darrell, Michael, David, and me in the backyard, across a table covered with my blue and white cotton tablecloth from Delhi, to celebrate the height of summer. The menu was pure summer--spareribs, fresh corn, green salad, fresh fruit and mint lemonade. We placed bouquets of daisies and yarrow from our garden down the center of the table.

Half of the fun was in the preparation. "Can we help?" Sophia and Emilie and Ezra asked. I accepted all their offers. Emilie cut up pineapple for fruit salad.

Ezra helped spin the lettuce.

Sophia tore up mint leaves.

I was in my element.

I miss the summer and the good food! Looking forward to at least the good food here in a couple weeks.

Great memories! Dinners in the back yard are one of my favorite events of the summer!
