When Sophie was operated on for brain cancer three years ago, her friends wore t-shirts that said, "Sophie is Strong." Sophie's brain cancer has returned, and she had another operation to remove a brain tumor on January 16, 2020. Sophie is still strong. She went into surgery with a smile and a bow in her hair. Sophie's sisters, Annelise and Emilie, came to the hospital to wish Sophie good luck.
By chance (or as one of Heavenly Father's tender mercies), Angela, a close family friend, was assigned to be Sophie's pre-op nurse. Angela got Sophie ready for surgery and then took her into the surgical suite.
Sophie gave the "V for Victory" sign.
The night before the surgery, Sophie's dad gave her a father's blessing, assisted by Sophie's two grandpas. The night after surgery, Sophie was in the intensive care unit, and the night after that, she was entertaining visitors in her hospital room, with her smile back on her face. Primary Children's Hospital has an "entertainment director" who brought Sophia a keyboard which hooked onto her bed. Sophie played Beethoven's "Fur Elise." Today, Sophie may get a visit from a healer's helper dog, and then on Sunday, January 19, she will go home.
