Memories of Fukuoka

Our grandson, Jono Ebert, was an LDS missionary in Fukuoka, Japan, on Okinawa, for two years.  We held a Japanese dinner in Jono's honor on March 12, 2023.  The rest of our family also love Japanese food.

Jono's dad, Steve Ebert, was the chef who fried the chicken katsu perfectly light and crispy.  He was known as the "wienerschnitzel king" on his LDS mission to Austria, because of how much he loved those European chicken cutlets.  Steve  gained experience frying chicken cutlets by making wienerschnitzel every month or two for friends, after his mission.  Camille brought the Japanese curry, which is deliciously different from the Indian version.  I made pork ramen, another iconic Japanese treat.

Fukuoka is in the south of Japan, on the island of Okinawa.  Jono found the Japanese language challenging, but he became fluent (at least in discussing religion!) before returning home.  He also gained an abiding love for Japan, its food, and its people.
