Michael was in St. George the weekend of October 23 for the wedding of his friend, Eric. Dave spent the day running, helping Grandma Spendlove celebrate her birthday, and watching football games. I wandered off with Michael for breakfast and then a hike in Zions Park. First stop was the Bear Paw, best breakfast spot in St. George. The waits for a table were an hour or more on this crisp fall day, but Michael and I got there early, before the largest crowds. We both had smoothies and I added a baked apple served with granola and cream.
We drove through the Zions Tunnel to the trailhead for Canyon Overlook, a one-mile hike to a lookout over the Zions Valley.
For such a short hike, it had lots of character. It had metal railings to hold onto because the trail was so steep up the slickrock.
It had overhangs.
It had caves.
And it had a stunning view at the end of the trail.
We drove back down the canyon, appreciating the beauty and luxury of water in a parched land.
As we hiked to the Emerald Pools, we encountered a little wildlife.
We were rewarded, for our hike, with stunning views of the lower Emerald pool, with the backdrop of red rock.
As we drove back to Springville, we made our traditional and mandatory stop at the pottery shop. 
We also stopped for an ice cream at the cafe, before driving home.
