Goodbye to Grandma

Dave's mom, Carol Spendlove, died on September 2, 2013.  Her funeral was held September 11, 2013, at Larkin Mortuary.  Dave spoke, recounting stories about Carol as a riveter on B-24 airplanes during WWII and helping her husband, Cliff, to catch Russian spies for the FBI.  Fred Houston, a long-time family friend, described Carol as "a lady" who really enjoyed being a woman.  Charlotte Alvey read Carol's story about becoming a riveter, Jacob Moench played his own arrangement of "I Need Thee Every Hour," and a collection of great grandchildren sang "I am a Child of God," accompanied by Jill Clark.   Michael Spendlove said the opening prayer, Jason Spendlove the closing prayer, Joshua Moreland read Carol's obituary, and Jared Moench played prelude music.  Some 75 to 100 of Carol's friends and family filled the Larkin chapel.  Friends and family also gathered at the viewing the night before and for an hour before the service.

It was a treat to have Grandma's nice, Valerie, attend the funeral.  Valerie is the daughter of Grandma's sister, Betty.

We hadn't seen Alan Dale's family for quite a while, and we enjoyed catching up with them.

There was also an assortment of Dave's mom's grand-children and great-grandchildren.

Some of Dave's and my friends dropped by, too, such as Pam Johnson.
Dave's mom was buried at Wasatch Lawn, next to Dave's dad and their son, Michael.

We returned to the Emigration 4th Ward, where our neighbors hosted us to a family dinner.  I took a snapshot of the supervisors in the kitchen--Pam Cole, Robyn Petty, Bobbie Casper, and Nancy Monson.  Dave's sisters, Nancy and Janice, laid out Dave's mom's photo albums on tables in the room where we ate, so family members could choose which pictures they wanted.
