Home pleasures seemed particularly sweet after my two week trip back East. On a sunny July 13, 2013, morning, I strolled with Jonny, Jenny, and Samuel through Salt Lake's Farmer's Market at Pioneer Park. Jonny met Mary, his third grade teacher from Lowell Elementary School, and then we all had bites of fresh cherry pie and the fried pork sandwich that Jonny bought at Siegfried's.
Dave and I spent the afternoon and evening at the cabin, enjoying a 4-wheeler ride over the ridge to look out at the mountains and wildflowers.
Breakfast at Michael's was a Sunday treat. Michael fixed German pancakes that puffed deliciously. He served them with berries and a collection of syrups he bought at the Farmer's Market.
We admired week-old Samuel and met Michael's roommate, a Ph.D student in biology and genetics.
It was a treat just to be in Michael's spacious, beautifully decorated apartment. His table is large and ornamented with shiny silver candlesticks. Above his sofas and fireplace hang photographs of the pristine beaches of Australia. His winding wooden staircase leads to his penthouse bedroom.
Back home, I strolled the loop through our neighborhood and enjoyed the beauty of evening descending on the Wasatch.
