On Sunday, July 7, 2013, we walked thirteen miles. A lot of that walking was crisscrossing Central Park, with Steve as our leader. After breakfast smoothies at Jamba Juice, we strolled to the edge of the park near Lincoln Center, where the children posed near the memorial to John Lennon, Beatles member who was murdered near there many years ago.
We went to Church at the Mormon ward at Lincoln Center.
We changed our clothes at Bed Bath & Beyond, near Lincoln Center. We were fascinated by the accommodations for squeezing a big box consumer store into a skyscraper. For instance, there was a contraption that ferried shopping carts between floors.
Steve led us to Levan Bakery, where we bought cookies so rich that one was a whole meal. We bought milk and ate it all on the benches at Central Park.
We crossed Central Park on our way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We paused charming lakes where visitors captained remote sailboats, and we paused by statues from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Rabbit, and other favorite children's books.
Because we had a large group of children, we limited our time at the Met to 1 1/2 hours. I spent my time in the new Islamic displays, but groups explored fashion, Roman statues, Old Masters, whatever.
After leaving the Met, we hiked through the Upper East side to Midtown and Serendipity Restaurant, where we put in our names and then wandered off again for the hour before our table was ready. We visited Dylan's candy store, with candy from yesteryear and far away lands.
We also stopped at FAO Schwartz, the upscale toy store.
We returned to Serendipity for its specialty, iced hot chocolate, as well as salads, sandwiches, and a very long hot dog.
We stopped at Rockefeller Center, on our hike back to our cars.
Our homeward path took us through Times Square one more time, where we stopped at souvenir shops to let the kids buy momentoes of a perfect trip.
The Eberts and Flindts split up, once we reached our hotel and cars. The Flindts and I headed for Philadelphia and on to Ohio, while the Eberts drove to Boston and on to Baltimore to Jono's lacrosse games. Spencer gave his cousins especially big hugs, since he won't see them again until after his mission.

What fun places to eat... I went to Levain Bakery when I was in New York a few weeks ago, and absolutely loved it. Dylan's Candy Shop looks fun, too. How great that you experienced so many of those places!
