Pomegranates, Figs, and Shakespearean Plays

We love our St. George house.  It is peaceful, quiet, well-decorated, and uncluttered.  It looks out on majestic Pine Mountain and on a red rock arroyo.  We spent August 22 and 23, 2013, relaxing at home in St. George and enjoying four plays at the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.
One favorite play was "Anything Goes," a 1920s romantic comedy with music by Cole Porter.  It was quintessential Broadway--great music and dancing, witty dialogue, splashy sets, and a happy ending.

A second favorite was "Twelve Angry Men," a classic drama about a jury deciding a murder trial.
We always enjoy Shakespeare's comedies, including "Love's Labours Lost," a witty tale about men who pledge themselves to do without women for a year, but who simply cannot do it.

"Peter and the Starcatchers" was a fantasy and a farce, the prequel to "Peter Pan."  Fantasy and farce are not genres we usually choose, but it was good to stretch ourselves and find we enjoyed this play very much.

We like food with our plays.  We drove up the canyon towards Brianhead for dinner at an old favorite, Rusty's.  Dave had steak and I chose the coconut shrimp, both served with baked sweet potatoes and apple crisp ala mode.  Rusty's is rustic, and we always check out the animal trophies on the walls.

Back home in St. George, we met with our gardener about adding more fruit trees and flowering trees.  He pointed out the pomegranates and figs already growing in our yard.

I had no idea you had pomegranates and figs in your St. George backyard. I remember Grandma Calder talking about the pomegranates in her yard in Pima. Yum!
