Reunion XV--Columbus, Dayton, and Home

One more ice cream cone, and the Flindts headed for home!   We stayed the night, on July 8, 2013, at Camille's home in Columbus.  Camille was in Boston, but she and Steve invited us to "just open the door and come upstairs" for hot showers and clean beds.   That felt great after our freeway dash across Pennsylvania and Ohio the day before.  We slept in and then posed for pictures on Camille's doorstep.  "Why are we doing this?"  one Flindt child asked.  "Why are we taking pictures of us in front of someone else's house?"  It was the same child who asked, after looking at the character shots in one of my photo albums, "Why are these people in here?  They aren't even related to us."

We stopped for one last ice cream at Graeter's, with its selection of "chip" ice creams--chocolate raspberry chip, mint chip, coconut almond chip.

The Flindts' plane didn't leave from Dayton until late afternoon, so we spent a few hours at the ever-fascinating National Museum of the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.  It was the Flindts' first visit to the museum, but my fourth.  In addition to checking out the latest drones and stealth fighters, we also wandered through the planes from the very beginning days of US military flight.  There was a display of military balloons from WWI and the Messerschmidt planes flown by the Red Baron, marked with the German Eagle.  There were also single-prop American planes from WWI and the 1920s.

One of my favorite planes, from WWII, had a painted face.  It would be intimidating to see that coming after you.
We hugged each other and bade farewell, till our next adventure.  Bryce was ready for his plane ride home, with his neck pillow stored on his head!

What a great museum... I'm sure the kids loved that as a conclusion to an action-packed trip!
