Jonny and Jenny spent the weekend of August 31, 2024, in Chicago with friends. Dave and I stopped by the park where Sam, Henry, Thomas, and J were playing, supervised by their babysitter. We borrowed Thomas and Sam for an hour to join us for an ice cream.
Utahns love their ice cream, and there is no shortage in our state of unique ice cream shops. This one was called "Milk and Cereal" and offered soft ice cream mixed with sauces, candies, nuts, and cereal. The house special included soft vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, cocoa puffs, pecans, and a Girl Scout cookie. Amazingly, it was good!We almost hated to interrupt Thomas from his play under the fountains at the park!
We were glad to support Jonny and Jenny as they spent time together in Chicago. Strong marriages are the foundation of strong families.Families were on Dave's and my minds as we picked up Sam and Henry for ice cream. We spent the morning doing "sealings" in the new LDS Taylorsville Temple. We believe that one purpose of this life is to link families together, on earth and in the afterlife, through ordinances in the LDS temples. Our ancestors are free to accept or reject those ordinances. One of the ancestors we helped to seal to his parents at the Taylorsville Temple was William, the First Thane of Cawdor, born in 1275! Taylorsville, located in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley, was, I believe, once home to John Bennion, my great-great grandfather. Grandfather Bennion traveled across the plains in a covered wagon as an early Mormon pioneer. He would be amazed and thrilled to know that there is now an LDS temple in his home town. From the First Thane of Cawdor to Sam and Thomas, I prize my family relationships!
