Alyssa gave her missionary farewell talk in Seattle on July 13, 2024. She was set apart as an LDS missionary by her stake president last week and given her name tag to wear throughout her 18-month mission. She then spent a week at home in Seattle, doing missionary training by Zoom. Alyssa finally arrived in Salt Lake City on July 30, on her way to the missionary training center at BYU. Dave and I took Alyssa and her big sister, Kirsten, to lunch at Kathmandu, an Indian restaurant near our home. We basked in Alyssa's excitement and promised to visit her in southern Spain this fall, after she completes her training, speaks fluent Spanish, and is a full-fledged missionary. Kirsten, a returned missionary herself, assured Alyssa that the mission will be hard, but totally worth it.
