Reunion II: Plain of Glaciers

We knew, from our 2017 family reunion near Glacier Park, that family members have different hiking skill levels.  Team A (Mike, Spencer and Naomi, Alyssa and Bryce) hiked the “Plain of Six Glaciers” trail today, along the shore of Lake Louise and then through the mountains to a glacier field.  They left at 5 in the morning and returned in the early afternoon.

Team B (Jonny's family, with Dad, Heidi, and I tagging along) drove to Mount Revelstoke Ski Resort.  There are six national parks near Golden—Banff, Yoho, Glacier, Mount Revelstock, Kootenay, and Jasper.  The resort at Mount Revelstock reminded me of one of the resorts near Park City, with an array of summer activities, shops, and restaurants.

 Dave, Heidi,and I just had a gelato, looked around, and drove back to Golden to meet Team A, but Jonny and Jenny stayed a few hours to take their little boys on the Alpine Slide and jumping on a trampoline in harnesses.

Dave, Heidi, and I thought Team A would be raring to go when we got back to Golden, but they were sacked out and groggy, exhausted from their 5 a.m. hike.  Dave and I wandered through the town of Golden, which had an antique car show going on.  Of course, we notice John Deere equipment wherever we see it!

 We also notice how the old-time cars have a lot more space in their engines.  A human being could actually tinker inside with a wrench.  The engine is now filled with computer software and hardware!

The Golden dogs were strutting their stuff.  We remembered the days of visiting the Flindt children in Seattle, when we picked a "dog of the day."  This hairy black creature would be a candidate.

 Team C (Camille's family) drove through the night from SLC and arrived at 4 a.m.  The Eberts crashed, and, when they woke up, they hiked to Wapta Falls, which was the trek which we did yesterday.  We were out of sync for much of the week, as Camille’s family went one way and Teams A and B went the other.  There was a constant threat of rain, so we rushed to get the best hikes in as quickly as we could.  As it turned out, there was only one rainy day during the whole week.  At the next reunion, we'll try to plan better, and to do more things together.
