Maryland Etc. Trip: Jared and Merle (3.31.24)

Jared Christopher has been a good friend of Dave since they were teenagers growing up in Bel Aire, Maryland, near Baltimore.  We finally visited Jared and his husband, Merle, in their charming home in Lewes, Delaware.  Jared is a talented gardener and interior decorator, and his home and landscape were works of art.
Lewes is a resort on the sea coast.  We drove with Jared and Merle to the beach and walked along the boardwalk.

We passed an old military installation from World War II.  During the war, German U-boats prowled up and down America's east coast, and armed blockhoiuses were built to deter an invasion!
On April 1, 2024, we drove with Jared to Longwood Gardens, in northern Delaware.  The day was rainy, but the gardens were exquisite.

We especially enjoyed the huge greenhouse, filled with flowering plants in brilliant colors.

Some of the flowers were rare, such as this variety, native to Tibet.

We stopped by ______, Delaware's colonial capital, on our drive back to Lewes.  There were wonderful Georgian buildings all around the square.  Someday I want to return and explore that area and its monuments further.
This memorial honored Delaware soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Back in Lewes, we had a great seafood dinner with Jared and Merle at one of the excellent town restaurants.
