Hungary and Austria: Tihany (6.7.25)

Our condo in Hungary was on the shore of Lake Balaton, a large resort lake two hours from Budapest.  On June 7, 2025, after driving from Vienna and stowing our bags at our condo, we spent the afternoon in Tihany.  Tihany is a quaint town on a peninsula reaching into the lake.

Tihany is dominated by Tihany Abbey, a Benedictine monastary established in 1055.
The chapel of the abbey was later decorated in Baroque style, with ceiling frescos depicting faith, hope, and love.

When I left Salt Lake, my 42 rose bushes were in bloom.  I was sad to leave them, but delighted to find that the roses were all in bloom in Hungary, as well!

There was a lavender festival in Tihany, the day we visited.  The fields surrounding Tihany were purple with flowers, and people walked through the fields, thigh high in blooms.
We stopped at a shop that sold nothing but lavender products.

We took a car ferry across the lake to our condo in Kszethely.  We passed sailboats on the way.
