Janie Rogers knows the major players in Utah's art scene. Janie and her late husband, Ed, owned a large and valuable collection of Utah art, accumulated over many years. Dave is Janie's LDS "minister" and we get together every month or two, usually to visit art museums and galleries. On April 29, 2025, Janie treated us to a fabulous art outing. The owner of the Weixler Gallery and the owner of the Erickson Gallery, both of whom are Janie's friends, gave us personal tours of the art in their galleries. Janie then treated Dave Erickson and us to lunch at the Oasis Cafe.
One of the Utah artists Dan Weixler represents paints scenes of women which are popular not just with individual collectors, but with churches and other institutions.
Dave and I love Utah landscapes, and we studied long and longingly at the Utah landscapes at the Weixler Gallery.
Dan Weixler and his sons also create and refurbish high end wood furniture. Dave tried out a reproduction of the wood recliner originally created for Brigham Young.
Dave Erickson is more knowledgeable about Utah art than virtually anyone else in the state. He curated the collection of Utah art displayed on the two floors of the Salt Lake City office of my law firm, Dentons. Dave also has a new gallery in the Avenues, near our home, filled with paintings by historic and current Utah painters.
After a couple of fascinating hours at the Weixler and Erickson Galleries, Janie invited Dave Erickson to join us for lunch at the Oasis Cafe. Dave is the father of Mark Erickson, a good friend of our son, Jonny, and Jonny has also bought art from Dave. We had lots to talk about.
