There were lots of fun people for Mike to share the game with--Michael K and Rebekah, Spencer and Naomi, and Grant and Meg with their friends. Mike also invited his cousins, Jared and Megan Moench, with their three girls.
In addition to the football, there was the half-time show, which brought together the most famous “rappers” in America—Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Bilge. Rap music is increasingly common, including in the fabulously successful musical, “Hamilton.” And, of course, the outfits of the stars were as diverting as their music. The female singer, Mary Bilge, wore a white, long-sleeved “onsie” with thigh high boots. In between the top of her boots and her onesie were naked thighs. She wore a hat low over her face, so that 10” expanse of naked thigh was quite shocking! Of course, that seems to be the goal of music superstars--to be at least a bit shocking.
There were lots of secondary activities, such as eating, in addition to the Main Event. I brought two crockpots with barbecued ribs, as well as root beer for root beer floats. Heidi supervised Megan and Jared's daughters in making sugar cookies.
Heidi is a great cook. She is also fit and attractive. As our neighbor, Carol Garza commented about Heidi at a recent dinner, "She should be on posters advertising pregnancy." Heidi is expecting her first son in March, and she is as pretty as ever.
Megan Moench is a favorite relative of mine, as well as of Mike and Heidi. It was fun to catch up.
Jared and his girls adored the "bouncy house" set up in Mike's basement. It is also a favorite for Audrey.
Another secondary activity was checking out Mike's Uzbeki bathroom. It is decorated with ceramic orbs hanging from the ceiling, a richly patterned ceramic dish on the sink, hand-woven rugs on the floor, and a wall of photographs of our fabulous trip to Central Asia.
Mike brought magnificent embroidered "souzanis" back from Bukhara. He hung one in the bathroom and one on the wall outside. Of all our children, Mike's house is progressing most rapidly to reaching the nirvana stage of my mother's house--every inch covered with gorgeous crafts, each representing memories from a mind-boggling trip. "I really need to add some shocking African statues like Grandma had," Mike muses.
One more secondary activity was just "hanging out," with or without the cute gaggle of little kids running, toddling, and crawling about.
It was especially fun to have time to talk with some of our beloved kin, like Kirsten, who don't make it to SLC for family dinners quite as often as others.
