Time to Go

Seattle was snowed in for several days after Christmas, with Kyle’s job and Bryce and Alyssa’s school canceled.  Lisa’s hospital desperately needs nurses, and so the Flindts left SLC on December 29, 2021, and drove through the night so Lisa could work her shift on December 30.   Lisa later called to say that the pass leading into Seattle was closed, so they had gotten a motel room until the pass opened.  “It probably won’t be open very long,” she speculated, “so we’ll just rush through.”  Driving the mountain passes from Utah through Idaho and Washington to Seattle is always dangerous during the winter.  Dave and I worry about the Flindts when they drive home for Christmas, but we also love to see them.

Spencer and Naomi dropped by to say goodbye to Lisa and Kyle, Bryce and Alyssa.  Kyle was in Provo, getting financing for the new car which the Flindts bought while they were here, so I fixed the rest of the Flindts one last lunch.  We ate toasted cheese sandwiches, baked beans, canned peaches, and hot cocoa together, and then sat in the living room, just talking, until Kyle arrived and it was time to go.  Dave and I told each other that one of the best parts of this Christmas was watching Lisa’s family have fun and bond with each other.

As I searched my photo file to find a picture of the Flindts' new car for this blog posting, Dave said, "Just take a picture of your own car."  The Flindts bought a white Subaru Forrester, just like mine, except with black leather seats.  (This photo is, trust me, the actual Flindt car.)
