Truck Ride to the Cemetery

He had rough hands and gave practical, down-to-earth advice.  One of his favorite sayings was, "There is no such thing as a free lunch."  Bill Edwards was our first bishop when we moved into the Ensign Fifth Ward, in 1978.  He died on December 12, 2021, and was buried on December 20.  I admired Bill immensely, including his wise, kindly, practical style.  I thought of Bill as like the early apostles that Jesus asked to drop their fishing nets and follow Him.  Bill's company tiled homes and businesses across Salt Lake Valley, and Bill did much of the tiling himself.  One of the homes he tiled was his own.  Bill's home was built on the spot in the Upper Avenues where he had often paused, as a young man skiing the foothills, to look down at the spectacular view of the city.  He stayed in that house and loved that view from 1974 until he died.

Dave's children thought it was only fitting, when Bill passed away at the age of 90, to deliver him to the cemetery in his own, well-used blue truck.
