Out and About with Mike and Heidi

Mike and Heidi came with us to the Spendlove Family Reunion on June 13, 2015.  It was organized by Dave's cousin, Larry Spendlove, and included his cousins and their families.

Nancy and Darrell Moench were at the reunion and brought Jared's children.  Jared and Megan are on a Caribbean cruise and so the kids, including cute Jessica, above, are staying with Nancy and Darrell.

Larry Spendlove was a lawyer with SLC before he retired, so he and I have a lot of friends and work things in common.

Janice Moreland's daughter, Charlotte, and daughter-in-law, Ashley, set up a shady spot with a quilt for their babies to play on.

Randy Aagard, son of Dave's Aunt Faye and Uncle Elmer, is still selling antique cars. He is an entrepreneur like his dad.

Joe Spendlove is the cousin we hear about the most.  He was a teacher at a local high school and was so popular that people frequently ask if we are related.  Joe and Larry are brothers, and sons of Dave's dad's brother.

Carol is Aunt Fay's daughter.  Aunt Fay was a witty, feisty woman who built a prosperous hearing aid business.  She died last spring.

Connie is Aunt Nelda's daughter.  She is roughly Dave's age, and he remembers her as a strikingly beautiful teenager.

Judy is also Aunt Nelda's daughter.  She has the look of Dave's dad's pretty sisters (and some of Nancy's daighters, such as Jennifer).

Dave wore his Western outfit and stood, like his cousins, to give a report of his family. 

The cousins made their reports in order of age of their parents.  Dave's dad was the baby of the family, so Dave and Nancy and Janice were last.

Janice's son, Joshua Moreland, adores his new son, Finn.  Joshua showed how he can balance Finn in the palm of one of his hands!

Mike and Heidi invited Dave and me to a German pancake breakfast.  The mansion at 5th and D is now Heidi's home, too, and it was fun to see her assume her role as hostess--whipping cream, pouring milk, welcoming us.

Mike and Heidi bought new red runners, silver chargers, and striped napkins with some of their wedding money.

The German pancakes turned out perfectly.

Mike and Heidi were the Sacrament Meeting speakers at the Emigration 4th Ward.  They were asked to talk about marriage.  Heidi's talk was particularly sweet.  She listed important characteristics of happily married couples and used Mike as the good example for each characteristic!  Mike also mentioned what a good wife Heidi is.

Dave and I were invited to dinner at Dave and Babs Hilbig's house.  Doug and Linda Rich were also dinner guests.  Doug was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and given three months to live.  Both he and Dave Hilbig are stake patriarchs and very sweet men.  It was a treat to spend an evening with them.
