Steve and Camille ran the New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon over the January 25 weekend. Dave and I tended Emilie, Annelise, Sophia, Ezra, and Mia, while Jono stayed with a friend. We all knew Steve and Camille were having fun eating beignets and po boy sandwiches, and visiting voodoo shops on Canal Street. Their fellow runners wore Mardi Gras-colored hair and masks. We vowed to have even more fun than Camille and Steve did.
On Friday night we saw "Paddington," a first run movie about a talking bear who moves from the Congo to London. He has a perfect British accent, but doesn't know "people" things like how to turn off the water to the bathtub. He came sailing down the main staircase of his adopted parents' home in London in an overflowing bathtub. The Paddington movie was not Dave's thing, but the rest of us kids loved it.
Ezra adores waffles, so that was our treat for Saturday morning breakfast. We told Ezra the waffles would make him as strong as Superman.
Annelise showed Sophia, Mia, Ezra, and me around the Museum of Natural Curiosity at Thanksgiving Point. It was a children's museum with a "water works" section, climbing ropes, and scales to compare your weight to that of different animals. There were also dozens of other fun things.
Dinner was at long-time favorite, The Spaghetti Factory. We told the kids stories about when their mother was a girl and worked as a hostess at this very Spaghetti Factory. The kids loved dinner, but just wished we could have had a table in the trolley.
The Eatathon continued on Sunday. We had berry smoothies and muffins for breakfast and then, after Church, ate English scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry jam. The children each got to choose their favorite tea cup for cocoa.
We congratulated Sophia on being chosen to sing in the Primary choir at Stake Conference. We watched her and waved.
The final treat of the weekend was Grandpa's hamburgers for dinner.
