Memorial Day Weekend in St. George

Our St. George house is one of Dave's and my best investments.  Ever since 2001, it has been a place where family gathers and relaxes together.  We also do a lot of laughing.  Camille and Steve are paying for an internet connection to the St. George house.  They told us, as we  prepared for this Memorial Day weekend in St. George, that the sign-in for the internet connection is “Grevid” and the password is “Dirty Pig.”

For years, David has teased our children and grandchildren that they need to name one of their children "Grevid," which is a combination of "Gretta" and "David." When Camille’s children were little, David challenged them, “You can call me anything else, but never, never call me ‘Dirty Pig.’”  Of course, the children immediately crowed, “Dirty Pig! Dirty Pig!  Grandpa is a Dirty Pig!”  as David roared in mock outrage.  We now have both "Grevid" and "Dirty Pig" memorialized in our St. George home!

Naomi fixed a French toast casserole for all our guests for Saturday breakfast--Michael K and Rebekah, Mike and Heidi.  Michael and Spencer then played one of their beloved chess games.  I enjoyed watching Heidi walk with Audrey around the house, holding her hand as Audrey toddled along.  Heidi calls Audrey “puppy” affectionately, and I appreciate how carefully and fondly my daughter-in-law raises her child.  Spencer and Naomi are also great parents for Eliza.  Dave and I arrived Thursday night and left for home on Saturday so Dave wouldn't miss church, but the rest of the guests stayed for the long weekend.

The drive to and from St. George is part of the luxury of our visits.  Dave is a child of the desert, after growing up in Dugway, Utah.  He loves the endless blue sky, red rock, and sagebrush-covered vistas, and I do, too.
One of Dave's and my rituals, whenever we drive to St. George, is to stop at the Red Barn in Payson, Utah, some eighty miles from SLC, into the 275 mile drive.
It is hard to decide which of the ice cream flavors to choose!
We also buy a few gallons of the Red Barn apple cider, made from apples grown in the orchard across from the Red Barn
