After dinner, Mike, Heidi, and I sat on the wooden
steps of our back porch, watching Audrey dig her feet in the gravel by the porch steps and then climb up the stone stairs to our gazebo. “She understands everything,” Heidi says.

Type "A" Male
As we prepared for this year's family reunion in Carlsbad, California, David needed to get a new outfit. Each year he is the auctioneer, as family members are issued play money and bid on a combination of great stuff and junk that the family assembles. Dave's traditional uniform, to identify him as the Type "A" Male of the evening, is a tie-dyed shirt and a horned hat. Unfortunately, during the 15 or 20 years David has served as auctioneer, hat and shirt have unraveled and worn out.Our grandson, Michael K. Flindt, solved that problem. He stopped by on Sunday, June 13, 2021, and presented David with a metal conquistador's hat to wear at the auction. The perfect statement! Unfortunately, Michael K and Rebekah couldn't stay to dinner, since their Flindt cousins were in town from Mississippi. Camille's family was also with "the other side" (also known as "Steve's family" or "the Eberts") so we had just Mike, Heidi, Audrey, and our neighbor, Carol Garza, to share our Russian feast. “I like small parties best,” Heidi once said, and we
enjoyed a cozy dinner of borscht, beef stroganoff, and plum
ice cream.
