Vermont VI: Emilie and Jake (Manchester to Boston 9/5/23)

It was a special treat, when we reached Boston on September 5, 2023, to have our granddaughter, Emilie Ebert, take us on a tour of Harvard.  She is a first year student at Harvard Business School.

We stepped inside the Widener Library, and I thought of my father, Grant Calder, studying there so long ago.  He would be very proud of his sons, Kent and Scott, his grandchildren, David, Liz, Mari, and Ryan Calder, and now his great-granddaughter, Emilie, who have all attended Harvard.

We walked from Harvard Business School to Harvard Yard and admired the imposing buildings on both campuses.

The Harvard motto, "Veritas," or "Truth" has so much relevance for today!

We visited Jake in his and Emilie's apartment and then, in the evening, ate dinner with Liz Calder in the North End.
On our way from Manchester to Boston, we drove through Petersborough, Vermont, where Thornton Wilder lived when he wrote "Our Town," which is David's and my favorite play.  Dave and I drove through the town, noting the places which were the inspiration for the play.
We finished our Boston trip with the "sine qua non," for me, of a visit to Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.  Here are just a few of the highlights of my wanderings there:
This is General Howe, who hauled the cannons Ethan Allen captured at Ft. Ticonderoga to Boston, where he placed them on Dorchester Heights and forced the British out of Boston.

And, of course, I feasted on the Renaissance Madoonas.
